NEWS FROM THE CAMP

The wildlife is coming back
July 2003

A program has been put in place to bring the turkeys back in higher numbers to the campsite. This is taking place during the summer and will bring more wildlife in to the general area. The rabbit habitat program seems to be working as all reports say the numbers are up. Part of the Ducks Unlimited program is to identify which animals are on the site and how we can encourage thier populations. More on how we plan to do this in further information on this website.

The road is being reworked
July 2003

As the road to the back is getting more use, it has been decided over the summer to rework the soft sections with gravel and fill. There will be no camping at camp sites this is just for use to get equipment for projects and camping to the back of the property.

We are getting all cleaned up
June 2003

Cabins were cleaned from top to bottom, fences repaired, signage erected. Needless to say special attention was given to the kybos with the addition of new chemicals and the new practise of keeping the seats down when not in use and do you know it works. It has been noted that some of the youth have commented that "hey the kybos don't smell that bad after all". Brushes have been added along with cleaning kits at each kybo to bring up the standard of hygiene.Conversations are underway to resolve the hand washing situation any input is welcome.

Check out the replanting we have going on
June 2003

The replanting progam has started along the road to the Beaver Pond with White Pines to the tune of 50 saplings being added to the Pine that were put in last year thanks to a donation from the Mininistry of Culture and Citizenship.

More bushes have been added along the Berry Trail which follows the route of the old Red Trail. This will be an ongoing project till the Berry Bushes get established. It promises to be a great feature for the youth that use the camp in the fall. A selection of berries have been planted and anybody wishing to add to the crop by planting contact us.
